Afro, sometimes shortened to ' fro' and also known as a " natural", is a hairstyle worn naturally by people with lengthy kinky hair texture or specifically styled in such a fashion by individuals with naturally curly or
straight hair. The hairstyle is created by
combing the hair away from the scalp, allowing the hair to extend out from the head in a large, rounded shape, much like a halo, cloud or ball.
Afro is derived from the term "Afro-American". The hairstyle is also referred to by some as the "natural"—particularly the shorter, less elaborate versions of the Afro—since in most cases the hair is left untreated by relaxers or straightening chemicals and is instead allowed to express its natural curl or kinkiness.
These Afros styles can take varied forms—
some incorporating elements such as braids, beads or twists—as well as various sizes—from close-cropped natural hairstyles all the way to expansive Afro wigs.

Some African-Americans who have been known for wearing Afros or Afro wigs during these two decades include NBA basketball players Ben Wallace, Kobe Bryant, and Michael Beasley, as well as musicians
Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Macy Gray, Ludacris, Questlove, Cindy Blackman, Wiz Khalifa, and Lenny Kravitz. Beyoncé Knowles also donned a large Afro wig for her role as Foxxy Cleopatra in the 2002 film Austin Powers in Goldmember.
The tools needed for an afro are;
The long, wide teeth of the afro pick or afro comb which were designed to dig down to the scalp allowing the hair roots to be stretched straight into a desired style or shape using a picking motion.
So when next you are considering a hair change - Think Afro.

Bollywood megastar Priyanka Chopra who is a leading Actor/Singer in India and Former Miss World shared some Hair talk on GUESS magazine
Here are excerpt (June 2014).
Q: What was your beauty routine like when you competed in Miss World?
A: “I remember a lot of makeup, curls, and hair spray. The best trick I learned was to do your makeup in natural light and smile while applying it, so you’ll know how you look if you win!”
Q: Do you have any other tips you’ve picked up over the years?
A: “I make my own exfoliating mask. Mix about a cup of water, two spoonfuls of rice flour, and a half or one spoonful of honey together. I leave it on for about 30 minutes until it dries, and then I massage it into my face before rinsing it off with cold water. The rice exfoliates and the honey moisturizes—it’s amazing.”
Q: What treatments have you taken from India?
A: “In India, we're really big on natural skin care. One of my favorite treatments is using yogurt on my face and body. It’s an incredible moisturizer and skin brightener. I also use a ton of oils. My grandmother and mother taught me to put coconut oil in my hair every night before going to sleep for shine.”
Q: What do you always carry with you?
A: “A lot of things: compact powder, hand lotion, about 15 different lip balms, another ten lip stains or lipsticks, gum, two different kinds of perfume—Gucci Flora is one of my favorites—hair ties, and sunglasses.”
